AIEOU Inaugural Convening

Tomorrow marks an exciting milestone for our community as the AIEOU Inaugural Convening officially begins in Oxford, running from 15–17 September 2025. This three-day gathering will bring together researchers, educators, policymakers, and innovators from across the globe to explore how artificial intelligence can transform education while keeping equity, inclusion, and human-centred values at the core.

A Warm Oxford Welcome

The convening opens with a welcome reception at the Saïd Business School, where participants will hear from leaders across academia, publishing, and policy. Invited speakers include voices from the OECD, Oxford University Press, and Oxford Girls High School GDST, who will set the stage for a weekend of ambitious discussions.

Professor Victoria Murphy, Director of the University of Oxford’s Department of Education, has already emphasized the importance of this gathering: it is not just about sharing knowledge but about building a community of practice committed to shaping the future of AI in education.

Exploring Ideas Across Oxford’s Historic Colleges

Over the following two days, the convening will unfold across some of Oxford’s most storied spaces. Day One will be hosted at St John’s College, with a program of collaborator presentations, poster sessions, and networking opportunities. In the evening, guests will have the chance to experience a formal black-tie dinner in the College’s historic dining hall, accompanied by a keynote from invited speaker Sarah Ultsch from Oxford University Press.

Day Two takes us to Pembroke College, a place steeped in scholarly tradition and creativity, once home to J.R.R. Tolkien, who wrote much of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings there. The day’s agenda includes further presentations and a closing reception at Reuben College, hosted in collaboration with Generation AI.

A Community of Inclusion and Collaboration

At its heart, AIEOU is about connection. The convening has been carefully designed to ensure inclusivity and accessibility. Quiet rooms are available at all venues, dietary needs are respected, and a clear code of conduct ensures that every participant is treated with dignity and respect.

Equally important is the recognition of the many hands behind the scenes: from Oxford University Press as our platinum sponsor, to the events teams at St John’s, Pembroke, Said Business School and Reuben Colleges, and the tireless volunteers who have helped bring this convening to life.

Making the Most of Oxford

For many, this convening is also a chance to experience the magic of Oxford itself. Attendees are encouraged to visit the Bodleian Library, one of the oldest in Europe, or explore the city’s historic sites during the Oxford Open Doors weekend. These experiences provide a reminder of the long tradition of learning and innovation that frames our own conversations about the future.

Looking Ahead

As we gather in Oxford, our goal is clear: to shape an AI in education community that is collaborative, critical, and committed to meaningful change. The AIEOU Inaugural Convening is not an endpoint, but the beginning of a shared journey. One that bridges disciplines, geographies, and perspectives.

We look forward to welcoming you, whether in person or in spirit, as we take this important step together.
